America is Still the Land of Opportunity
As we transition to Memorial Day weekend, here in America, we honor the fallen men and women that have made this country the land of the free and home of the brave. I still also happen to believe that America is the land of opportunity. What does that opportunity look like for savers and investors?
While both the equity and bond markets have declined so far this year, in 2022, there still are opportunities within the investment world that have showed promise and even positive gains. Alternative investments, broadly speaking, tend to do well or hold their value when general equities slide. Drilling down even further, we see great opportunity in limited resource based equities and REITs; precious and other metals, farmland, timberland, and energy among others.
America has been a global producer, a maker of things, for a long time. We seemed to have gotten away from that for a while, highlighted by the rise and fall of major tech based companies recently. Many economists are talking about the next phase of economies looking much more de-globalized than in recent past. If this is true, we will need to produce more of our own goods and services and we will need the energy and resources to do so.
Rather than focusing on the negative, let’s pull ourselves up by the boot straps and seek out these opportunities, together, as Americans. In doing so, let us remember all those that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we have the FREEDOM to do so.
